What's it like to be a Residential Engineer?
Residential Engineers are responsible for maintaining the physical condition of residential properties. Typically employed by property management companies, real estate agencies or government housing agencies, their job includes handling all the technical aspects of building maintenance and repair. They ensure timely preventive maintenance, troubleshoot any issues that may come up, and coordinate with contractors for larger projects. Furthermore, they also ensure the infrastructure is up to date with safety and building regulations.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of residential facilities or complexes.
- Planning and coordinating all installations such as telecommunications, heat, electricity and refurbishments.
- Ensuring the buildings and their services meet the needs of the residents, implementing and managing systems for reporting faults and issues.
- Inspecting buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.
- Serving as the main point of contact for providers such as cleaning, catering and security services.
- Managing budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and obtaining quotes for repairs and maintenance.
- Upholding health and safety regulations and ensuring all works carried out are compliant.
