Office Managers ensure the smooth functioning of an organisation by formulating, applying and maintaining procedures and structures for employees in accordance with company policy. Some administrative tasks they oversee include processes in payroll, budget analysis, filing paperwork and employee training and evaluation.

- Supervising safety, cleanliness and overall efficiency in the office.
Office Managers guide and collaborate with department heads in boosting company productivity and efficiency. Often, they preside over meetings, and meet with upper management to better understand an organisation’s needs, direction and goals. They also use computers and software to schedule deliverables, craft presentations and communicate with employees or vendors.
How to become an Office Manager
Office Managers need a combination of teamwork and management skills that can be built through experience and education.
- Complete a diploma course or bachelor degree in business administration or a related field.
- Gain industry experience. Previous experience in human resources or an administrative department gives you relevant professional training on leadership, planning and coordinating.
- Consider starting off in an entry-role such as administrative assistant, office clerk, receptionist or office assistant.
- You can complete additional training or take certificate courses to improve your skills.
- With enough experience, Office Managers can move on to senior management roles such as operations manager, financial manager or business development manager.
