Supply Chain Managers work with different stakeholders to oversee the production of goods or delivery of services. Primarily, they ensure that all logistical requirements of the entire production process are efficiently handled while reducing costs. Depending on the nature of the business, this can include sourcing and purchasing as well as shipping and storage. As the head of the supply chain flow of a company, Supply Chain Managers have the crucial responsibility of managing a team of supply chain analysts and strategists. They may also serve as the main point of contact for stakeholders.

  • Supervising the entire supply chain process from sourcing and inventory to shipping of goods.
  • Identifying the most appropriate, efficient, and innovative resources and strategies to handle goods.
  • Communicating with partners, including buyers and suppliers, on all logistical needs and concerns.
  • Analysing the supply chain process and performance and preparing reports.

  1. Complete a bachelor degree in logistics, supply chain management, business or a related field.

  2. Consider a postgraduate degree. Although this is not a formal requirement, advanced expertise in logistics can improve your employability.

  3. Gain several years of experience working in business, customer support or logistics. This will help you improve useful skills such as negotiation and problem-solving which are essential for Supply Chain Managers.
