What's it like to be a Physiotherapist?
Physiotherapists are trained to help patients restore mobility in their body. This could be due to surgery, accidents or disease. These trained medical professionals spend years learning how to manage pain, improve balance, enhance mobility and regain use of motor functions. The programs they develop help rehabilitate the body through the use of special exercises and tools, as well as other various methods to target a specific function or body part and bring it back to full use. They usually work in hospitals and rehabilitation centres or work in a private practice.

- Assessing a patient's condition or mobility issues.
- Developing treatment programs to restore natural movement.
- Customising training programs to manage body pain or improve mobility.
- Providing physical care for post-surgery patients that may need rehabilitation of physical movement.
How to become a Physiotherapist
Starting a career as a Physiotherapist requires completing SPM or O-Level studies from a recognised educational institution. To land this role, you will need to complete several years of study that can lead to a specialisation or leading your own private practice.
- Complete a three-year diploma or four-year degree in physiotherapy. This four-year degree includes one year of clinical work.
- Carry out a research project in your final year of study. This is a requirement to be able to complete your degree in physiotherapy.
- Register with the Malaysia Allied Health Professional Council (MAHPC). Physiotherapy is a regulated career and the Malaysian government requires membership with the MAHPC.
- To improve your employability, you can take postgraduate studies to become an expert in a specialisation. This could lead to setting up your own rehabilitation clinic, lead a physiotherapy department in medical facilities, or start a private practice.
