What's it like to be a Human Resources Manager?
A Human Resources Manager is an upper-level position that usually takes charge of the HR department and consults with top executives. They are responsible for recruitment, employee relations and staff activities. They act as a link from the employees to the company management.
Tasks and duties
- Leading and directing the human resources department in a company.
- Conducting performance evaluations.
- Disciplining employees and carrying out due process.
- Planning human resources strategy and goals with company directors.
- Designing employee wellness and incentive programs.
How to become a Human Resources Manager
Human Resources Managers are usually promoted after years of experience and a track record of satisfactory performance in lower human resources positions. They are also recruited to pioneer human resources teams in new companies. Many Human Resources Managers have completed higher education in business, organisational development or human resources.
- Obtain a bachelor degree from a recognised institution in a related field of study.
- Complete an internship in HR. Having experience in a work setting will help you get your first job in the industry.
- Get at least two years of work experience in HR. The more years of experience you have, the more qualified you are for the role of HR Manager.
- Obtain a masters degree in human resources. The expertise and show of commitment from getting higher education will bring you to the top of the ladder in the HR industry.
