While Housekeepers are expected to clean the property, some roles also include childcare, cooking, doing laundry and other household chores. Residential employers can choose to hire stay-in Housekeepers to maintain their home full-time or hire Housekeepers part-time. For employers in commercial establishments, they expect their Housekeepers to be familiar with cleaning tools and techniques to keep their properties clean, tidy, and a pleasant place to work in.

How to become a Housekeeper
Becoming a Housekeeper does not require a degree. However, some commercial employers require certain educational requirements are met before being hired.
- Gain experience through housekeeping recruitment agencies or start offering your services to private employers
- Some employers require having at least O-level or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) education or higher. This is usually required by professional housekeeping establishments such as hotels, resorts, and leisure parks.
- In certain industries, such as hotels, housekeepers can become housekeeping coordinators. This role offers opportunities for housekeepers with leadership skills to grow career-wise by managing other housekeepers. This path can also lead to starting your own cleaning agency for residential or commercial properties.
