What's it like to be a Business Analyst?
Working in-house for a company or as an outsourced professional, Business Analysts study collected data from various sources such as financial reports, market surveys, and workflow processes. By using statistical knowledge, they extract and organise information, which enables them to formulate strategies that help businesses achieve their specific goals. Though they spend most of their time using computer software and technical tools, they also work with other analysts, information technology teams, and managers to access data and define business targets. Because they may be required to craft reports and present their suggestions to mid-level and senior executives, Business Analysts should have strong communication skills.
Tasks and duties
- Analysing the big picture of business issues through research, evaluating present practices, and studying data collected by other team members.
- Collaborating with stakeholders, technicians, and management to better assess the issue.
- Identifying business pain points and opportunities.
- Developing programs and solutions based on an organisation’s needs and goals.
- Presenting conclusions and recommendations to management.
- Researching ways to upgrade business processes through technology and workflow improvements.
How to become a Business Analyst
- Complete a degree in business administration, business management, IT, computer science or another related field.
- Consider starting off in an entry-level position. As a junior Business Analyst, you will assist in gathering and examining data, as well as brainstorming business solutions for an organisation. Use this time to strengthen your skills and determine the specific industry you want to specialise in.
- Certifications can boost your credentials and let you network with other Business Analysts. Choose internationally recognised certifications, which can widen your career opportunities.
