There is no denying how much COVID-19 has affected lives. While it may be easy to identify and focus on the negative implications of the pandemic, a recent work trend report released by JobStreet revealed that COVID-19 brought about some positive effects, especially for Malaysia’s workforce.

The second Decoding Global Talent report by JobStreet, the Boston Consulting Group (BGC), and The Network looked into working practices in the new normal, job preferences, and the overall impact of COVID-19 on the workplace. Among the key impact areas that were surveyed were digital tools, the flexibility of work, and team collaboration. Results turned out positive for Malaysia, so much so that the country is recognised as one of the few where every working aspect surveyed has had a favourable effect by COVID-19.

Here is a quick look into some highlights of that report. Find below an infographic detailing the positive impacts of COVID-19 in Malaysia and the world.

How COVID-19 Impacted The Way We Work: Local vs. Global

Among industries that were most positively affected were those that involved digital and knowledge-based jobs, such as IT and Technology and Consulting. Those with physical and social jobs, including the Service Sector and Health and Medicine, scored lower but still had a generally positive impact.

How can Malaysian talent maximise the positive impact of COVID-19?

The overall positive impact of the pandemic lends a bright outlook for jobseekers eager to enter the workforce. As such, Malaysian talent would benefit further by adopting these best practices:

  • Utilising available online portals for job search
  • Maximising digital tools for job efficiency and team collaboration
  • Strengthening relationship with colleagues and superiors via digital ways
  • Adapting to flexible working models, wherever and whenever
  • Investing in the proper infrastructure for remote or office work
  • Establishing a personal mode of work that balances efficiency and safety
  • Establishing and maintaining good rapport with colleagues and superiors
  • Adapting to new collaboration tools and mechanisms
  • Engaging with colleagues for personal and professional growth
  • Taking part in virtual team activities
  • Investing in virtual learning opportunities and solutions
