Breaking new ground with Malayan Flour Mills Berhad

Beyond talking about poultry and flour, Carol also shares with us her experiences working with a trailblazing company like Malayan Flour Mills Berhad. In 1966, Malayan Flour Mills Berhad established the first flour mill in the country at Lumut, Perak. Today, it boasts of a robust workforce in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. It’s even received countless awards and recognitions for best HR practices!

Meanwhile, Carol joined Malayan Flour Mills Berhad eight years ago, which she recalled was her introduction to the food industry. It was a major learning experience for her, having to learn a great deal about flour and poultry. All these may not seem relevant to her HR duties. But, she said it’s actually important to know the business this way so she can support the business better.

“As HR, we have to understand how the CEO thinks. What is business expansion like? What kind of people are they looking for?” she shared.

On seeking new blood

In the podcast, Carol sheds light on what HR managers look for in jobseekers. As a long-time employee, she also gives some inspiring words to young professionals. For example, jobseekers must keep a child-like curiosity that will motivate them throughout their careers.
