Project Assistant
Kuala Lumpur

Responsibilities:

General Functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office in Malaysia and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, Head of Technical Cooperation Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the implementation of IOM Malaysia’s Immigration and Border Management (IBM) project. Specific duties and responsibilities will include: 
  • Support the implementation of IOM Malaysia’s IBM project activities
  • Liaise and build strong working relationship with stakeholders/partners, including Malaysian government officials
  • Organize meeting, training and workshops
  • Assist the Project Coordinator in monitoring the project timeline, resource scheduling and risk management
  • Drafting of periodic reports on the project
  • Support Technical Cooperation Unit’s cross functional roles and responsibilities in other projects as required
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in related functions
  • Experience of working with government and/or understanding of the government structures and practices
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing meetings, workshops, conferences required
  • Experience and understanding on migration issues, especially people smuggling, human trafficking and border control issues
  • Experience in interviewing / dealing with vulnerable individuals, an advantage
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, creative thinking and strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia written and spoken language is a must
